"Quality Restrictions"

My wife and I took a drive today. The past week has been miserable with steely gray overcast skies, damp, cold, and generally not the sort of weather that drew us to Texas. Saturday was beautiful though. Crisp, not too cold, bright blue skies, a pleasant breeze and, as we were much in need of an excuse not to be weeding the lawn, we headed out to do some last minute Christmas shopping.

Among the sights we encountered; a local developer is, well developing. And to attract new folks to the development he posted signs describing the many benefits of living in that new community. The one that caught my eye was "Quality Restrictions".

I had to ask myself, just what that meant. Was that an upper bound? "We pride ourselves on having a limit on how much our residents spend on tiling the foyer"? Or, and this is just as troubling, do they pride themselves on the quality of their restrictions? I'd hate to move to a place with great SOUNDING restrictions, only to find that the wording of the restrictions, and the enforcement of the restrictions were, less than stellar. Now having high quality restrictions, there's something to brag about.

Well, the development is probably not for me, anarchist that I am. I'd prefer a place where, should the mood strike me, I could have goats grazing on the roof.

But that's me.
